Roman Torment - Skin Game [PacRec - 2006]Skin Game for most of it’s running time finds as drowning in harsh oceanic, earth quake ripped, whirlwind torn noise. This is all out sonic storm, an attack on all fronts not quite wall noise but very close. Reel upon reel of sound roars towards you, bearing only slight traces of structure and the odd squeal of feed back. But through it all it has quite a claming almost womb quality, to me this doesn’t come across either nasty or evil sounding. On offer are seven tracks -the first five tracks follow a similar pattern, literal dumping their weight of sound on you from the out set, not letting up or clearing the denser and whirling sand storm of sound until the track suddenly stops. The last two tracks start with a slight more subtle squealing distorted elements and low down metallic drones before ripping you once more up and into the raging sound, though still twisting in some rather satisfying ripples and burns of feed back screams, here and there. Nothing too fancy or clever just rewarding and all enveloping noise, that nicely blocks out the world around you, leaving you mind high on the noisey currents of sound. Roger Batty
