Boredoms - Superroots [Very Freindly - 2007]

Superroots one original saw the light of day back 1994, like the rest of the superroot albums it’s an experimental, a tasting session for some sounds that may or may not reappear again later on, this has few traces of their sound at the time- it owes much more to a dada gone wrong circus jazz, come bent easy listening, or toy town chaos- sure there’s some metallic elements here, but the focus is on a much richer pallet.

Coming off like a more noisy early Residents for most of it’s running time. Prime example of this is track two  Budôkan tape try, that feels like it could have come from The Residents  Fingerprince or maybe even Duck stab, with it’s pumping wonky  brass and guitar whine that brings found memory of the great snakefinger, though it’s does drop into hectic speeding phase towards the end like hardcore played by a bizarre clown band. Monster Rex & S*und ‘A’  R*undus  sounds like a winding down and drunken big band with chaotic punky gitar chug and all manner of weird and wonderful sounds, dropping into drum machine abuse via sci fi effects peddle as it ends.  But don’t get me wrong this is still very much the Boredoms, there residue is leaking from every overweight sweating clown face pore of this ep. This is them trying on a different sound for this half an hour or so and making a clear nod towards one of the experimental originators The Residents.

Surely of interest to Boredom fans and all those who enjoy the musically odd. Packaged like the rest of these reissue in a wonderful over-the-top many coloured shelve with a great stuck on blue obi.
