Múm - The Peel Session [Fat Cat Records - 2006]This ep of recordings from 2002 one and only John Peel session with Múm is issued for the first time here and is an important stepping stone between the cute electroinca of their first album, Yesterday Was Dramatic Today Is Ok and their emotional touched folktroncai/ indietrocia of the follow up Finally we are no One. On offer are mainly tracks from their first album, with just Now there’s that fear again from their second album. As was typically of their radio sessions & live reworkings, the tracks sound quite different from that of their album version, so thankfully there’s straight re-harshers here. The ep just really illustrate beautiful their morphing sounding, on some tracks almost before ones ears. And if the press releases is anything to go by go, with it’s claim that the new material is in a similar vein texturally to this, we’re in for a real treat after their lacklustre last album Summer make good. Not really a ideally introduction to the band, but those familiar and still in love with the bands first two album, this is a welcome & rewarding addition to ones collection. Roger Batty
