Suburbia Melting/Pulse Emitter - Split [Dumpster Score Home Recordings - 2006]This rather nice Ltd hand painted envelope Packaging offers up a 3” cd a piece from two US Psychedelic synth noise projects; Andy Quitters Suburbia Melting and Daryl Groetsch’s Pulse Emitter. Each 3" cd offers up a track each. Suburbia Melting takes the first disk with another great slab of pulsing synth noise called Deep transmission(lonely Boom Box Blues. Which enter with a main looping almost guitar like synth pulse, which Andy adds all manner of interlock swirls burns, distorted chugs of sound, and shades of different static to give great atmospherics. Though out it’s twenty minutes Quitter mangers to keep it sound fresh and interesting. It certainly has some almost melodic/ harmonic edges to the great mantra like throb and loop of the main synth tone as it snakes it’s way along, pulling you father and father into it’s hypnotic path. It has quite the feeling of cooling sci-fi soundtrack in places. Next disk we have Pluse Emitters Red Eye, which enters with nice doomy synth throb, and spreading cracks of static, like an audio windscreen, spiderweb cracks spreading. The synth throb becomes louder and wider, taken on a deep droning quality like ripples on cold black water. Giving an impressive presence of sound, Groetsch slowly rolls and stretches the tone into different droning harmonic forms. He also builds depth of sound by adding on more static texture and sour higher tones of pitch. Again it has the feeling of sci-fi movie, but this time something more lit by sinister laser light. A very enjoyable split package slowing the considerable talents of both involved parties. I guess The Suburbia Melting disk stands as my favourite of the two, as Andy seems to layer in more different shades of sound. But both pieces are very worthwhile the time of anyone interested in Psychedelic synth noise or droning & rich noisey sound worlds. Roger Batty
