6 Comm - Content With Blood [Kenaz - 2007]Since the release of the excellent double disk set Headless last year, it makes sense to reissue 6 comm. first album from 1987 Content with Blood, which has been out of print for sometime & illustrations Patrick Leagas first steps into muilt-genre thoughtful darkness. Though this does show it’s age in places more than the material on Headless, it never the less is worthwhile, showing the development and starting blocks in their, sound . Really showing once more how advance and unequal the project was & clearly shows their as important as other post industrial band like Coil, Current 93 and Nurse with Wound. It seems so unfairly that Patrick Leagas work has always just been seen as a foot note in Death in Junes history, when it’s worth so much more than that. We find here a mix 80’s dark electronica, neo classical vibes ,gothic pop , funk to rock traces, dark ambience and experimental elements, all mixed in a distinctive and intelligent manner. Vocally Leagas recognisable vocals appear as does Female vocalist Julie Harrington's- who goes from fairly straight poppy tones to more haunted experimental tones. I think the most impressive element here is the way Leagas has layered the production in a clever manner, with surprising noise and sound elements suddenly appearing like strange spectres out of the songs. A satisfying debut album, that has to be seen in its late 80’s context and not be judged by today standards. Not really enter level 6 Comm. more for those who enjoyed Headless and want to see the origins of the project. Roger Batty
