Modified toy orchestra - Toygopop [Warm Circuit - 2007]Modified toy orchestras do just as their name suggests they make quirky electrioncia, all via the use of modified electronic toys. Making an album that is memorable, odd and fun. Can’t think I’ve heard electronicia sounding this playful or effortless in a very long time, it brings back fond Memories of Aphex twin's more inventive and childlike take on electronics, displayed on the likes of the Richard D James album. Each track is built around numerous electronic toy devices, the more instantly recognisable toys would be speak and spell Play, school saxophone and touch & tell, along with numerous child market focused basic synthesizer’s and of course not forgetting Hula Barbie whom features on the front cover. The tracks go from sounding like odd electronic toy town pop music, to more experimental and textual climbs, almost moving towards noise like textures at times. All a making an album that is inventive and surprising, with its sound use as well as its tuneful heart. Really you wont have heard anything quite like this- as the Toys emanate all kinds of weird, wonderful, unique and dense sounds and sound worlds. An cerebration of charming home made electronics, full of playful vibes and atmospheric circuitry expanses. It all come in a great digi-pak with a thick booklet with pictures of every modified toy used and an interesting two page write up as how the project came about and tips for budding digital toy modifiers.
