Reuber - Südpol [Staubgold - 2007]Südpol( South Pole) is a wonderful rich, melodic and tone dense exploration into eletronic moodscapes. This is Reuber Forth album and follows on some of the spacey electronic tendency shown by his label mates Rafael Toral’s Space, but in a lot more approachable and accessible form. This is very much about synth textures and building up elegant and throbbing walls of sound with some very tuneful edges. The electronics have quite an analogue almost 70’s feel to them in places, but with modern production and inventive modern touches. Though out you fall into one tripped out synth cloudscape after another for the most part it’s all fairly upbeat, but never boarding on been bland, as Reuber builds in effective and surprising sound touches. Also you can hear guitar and clear piano like elements here too, but never to point were they take away from the focal throb of synthesizer. Stand out moments are difficult to pick as there really is no low points here, but if forced I’d say the more dark and nasty bounce and engine roaring synth rolls of Tausendnadelwind, which seems to keep building and building a great edgy atmosphere, almost feeling at points it could explode into fiery electro noise but never does. Or the calming and tuneful space race throb and star rich tones of the albums opener Altweiber, that just makes you feel like your zipping though warm and friendly constellations of many coloured stars off to strange new worlds The first great Electronic album of 2007 that equal in its melodic elements and texturally depth, and that just keeps calling to be replayed again and again.
