Hoor-paar-Kraat - The Absurdity of Symbolism [Goat Eater Arts - 2007]The Absurdity of Symbolism is the new slice of surreal, ever morphing sound world that is Hoor-paar-Kraat. It finds Mr Mangicapra & his Grim sound Dr’s melding more guitar textures into their sound, following on from the excellent Nagaraja Movements from early this year, but in a more progressive and varied manner. The audio air here is very thick with an odd grey almost Alice in wonderland type vibe, the feeling of been stuck somewhere very strange where the normal rules of psychics and reality don’t exist. This feeling I guess it started nicely by the first track I am taking With you With me, Which starts with a doomy guitar throb and buzz, to which the sounds of chattering birds and weird muffled voices are added. Soon a surreal story is read over the top, which consist of reader talking about listening to David Tibet's & Steve Stapleton’s Octopus in his buddies car, before drifting into a very odd other world. As the tale unwinds all manner of evil guitar buzzing and purring are mixed with stranger sample matter that is both puzzling and a little alarming. Towards the middle the track it takes on an sort of bitter, almost cinmatic ambient drone underneat the guitar and samples. The rest of the disk progress in a similar manner with most tracks mixing together guitar craft and samples- making quite an original sound concoction. Surprisingly even touching down in some very emotional charged soundscapes with an almost erratic cinematic quality about them, like the theme to an emtonal break-down or a losted loves pain played out in sinster and surreal light As usual with Hoor-paar-Kraat releasers -this is hellishly ltd, mine is no 62 of 93, packaged in a card sleeve with fold round textured card- making it a puzzling and arty looking item. Like all his work this very much worth a look, but act quick before you miss out. Roger Batty
