WoO - Mobi Rock [rx:tx - 2007]WoO is aparently one man (there's no name credit anywhere), and that's cool. Whover WoO is, they deserve to be recognized for their ear for both melody and noise. " /> | Mobi Rock consists of music generated from two guitars, presumably of the table-top and standard variety, shitloads of effects pedals, computer enhancement, mobile phones, remote controllers and "small devices", whatever that means. WoO is aparently one man (there's no name credit anywhere), and that's cool. Whover WoO is, they deserve to be recognized for their ear for both melody and noise. A lot of this music drifts along in drone fields with granulated analog noises littered about. It's not a generic genre exercise though. In fact, Mobi Rock straddles genres. There are tracks which introduce beats (which sound to me like they were created on guitar), alongside semi-ambient melodic tracks, as well as the aforementioned drones. The droney tracks are not monolithic or straight-forward either; they include hints of melody and a shimmering, shifting quality which makes for more entertaining foreground listening than one might expect. WoO is a part of the interesting Belgrade Noise Society. This is my first exposure to a representative of that particular scene, and it's been a positive experience. Erwin Michelfelder
