Zweistein - Trip-flip out-Meditation [Captain Trip - 2007]This has to be one of the strangest, bizarre, puzzling and often alarming records I’ve ever come across, really it’s a “trip” in true sense of the word, not really making any logical or musically sense for much of its playing time- a head melting experience of the highest order. It’s broken up over three disks with forty minute playing time on each- it basically weird effects laden psychedelic sound scapes that are made up of ; streached and morphed vocal/noises, sped up music/voices, rudimentary guitar discordants, spacey feedback and church organ weave/ buzz, distant vocals and all manner of other odd treats. It was original released in 1970 on Philips, who quickly with-drew it after finding out how odd it was, it’s been a highly sort after release ever since. It’s been lumped in with Krautrock, which it really it’s not, it's just an with odd sound record/ trip with the odd musically elements along the way. Its still sounds extremely odd today- god knows what a shock it must have been back then, I can well imagine records buyers really thinking they’d fliped out on acid when playing this. I won’t go into track details as I think it would ruin the over all effect and rather cheapen its strangeness . The last disk features two extra tracks that are more conventional musical and song based- though still very odd mix of sound and textures going on over the mix of folk/ rock- I guess If you think early gong before they became more jazzy and dense- but with lots of odd sounds added in top and a bit more freaky too. It’s been reissued in a splendid and deluxe fashion by Japanese label captain trip, the three disks coming in a silver card folder/booklet with a piece of mirror on the front. Inside on gold and purple shiny stock are images from the original album as well as a booklet featuring the description/explanation of each movement, which as you can imaging sheds little light on it all just makes it all even more puzzle. A real treat for hunters of the audio odd and surreal surely appealing to fans of bizarre sound worlds, Nurse with wound and drugged-out Musique concrete.
