Pain Jerks/Incapacitants - Live at the No Fun fest 2007 [No Fun Productions - 2007]This wonderful intense, loud & brutal disk captures the first ever USA live shows by two legendary Japanese noise acts Pain Jerk & Incapacitants at this years No Fun Festival in New York city. The disk is split into two long searing, extreme and psychedelic sound batters, one set from Pain Jerks and one from the Incapacitants - both recorded at blistering high yet clear levels so you feel every burn, rip, judder and brain melting tone with great clarity and depth. Pain Jerks Hello American is first up and from the outset slams you straight into a shifting and jerking wall of noise, sheets of sound boil, burn and rip up in a beautiful and brutal static storm, as different noise textures soar in and out of focus. With elements of structure and rhythm surfacing every now and then from the earlobe ripping maelstrom. The track last in all just over 30 minutes and is kept active, interesting and most importantly unforgiving throughout its rein of noise. The Incapacitants track the crowd inched closer and closer is next with a few seconds of crowd noise before throwing itself into a chaotic and painful mix of screamed and amped-up vocals, roaring electronics, what could have once been music, with all tied up with twists and turns of barbwire feedback. This is more shifting chaotic and downright punked dirty than the Pain jerk track, a real adrenalin rush of a track that pulls, rips and smashes you ears and mind all over the show. This is slightly shorter around the 22 minute mark, but no less rewarding in its own way. The disk is packed in the standard stiff cardboard cd gatefold that all no Fun Productions titles come in, coming with a 12 page booklet of colour pictures from the shows and text about the event. A really noise treat of the highest order from these two master of the form, recorded perfectly loud, clear and dangerous. Roger Batty
