Zaimph - La Nuit Electrique [Utech Records - 2007]

La Nuit Electrique offers up three rewarding & very different takes on gitar/electronic based drone craft and looped Sonic tracks, each deep with its own distinctive atmospherics and hypnotic air/ flavour.

The first untitled track loops  a stuck, rich and complex music box like timpani of sound that spirals out more & more as the track progresses seemingly surrounding you on all sides, it feels like it was original derived from guitar- but it’s difficult to pinpoint exact sound source, added to this is a dry fire or time worn crackle layer of sound. The track as a whole feels like slowly examining a wonderful a delicate butterfly stuck in mid-flight in almost translucent amber- really an enchanting and beautiful 16 minute track. Next up  track two starts off with a more blackened & clearly guitar feed-back trail and pitch, before shimmering into a early  dark space cave Tangerine  Dream like  feel  think the vibe of Zeit via blacked  cello like guitar drones. The last track  is built around more Space rock biased stuck cord elements, seemingly expanding and contracting like a throbbing and bloodshot floating sonic eye. The melodic traces coming closer then drifting away once more into feedback storm and sonic grit

Zaimph is all the work of Marcia Bassett (Double Leopards, Hototogisu) and I’ll have to say I was very highly impressed by this. As  not only does it show great sonic depth & atmospherics, but also  mangers to paint highly accomplished guitar sonics in three different yet equally enthralling sound creations. Yet another highlight in Utech Records wonderful Arc Series.
