Glowstyx - Class of 1992 [Cock Rock Disco - 2007]If like me you had a misspent youth (seemly several in my case) in dodgy night clubs and parties, you’ll more than warm to the 12 shots of dense retro sounding rave and techno on display here. Though I have never been and never will be a dancer or clubber I,ve always had a soft spot for Rave music from around the early 90’s and the rather fittingly named Glowstyx manage to recreate that vibe superbly. The albums a delirious and dense conclusion of fast beat craft, pumping whistle blowing and euphoric synths waves and melodies, high pitched vocals, paino and dub breack-downs & piles of dialogue samples- all rammed at often bewildering pace into your mind. I guess the closet comparison to those not familiar with Rave Music of the 90’s(cant say I remember too many names either) are elements of the first Prodigy album, FSOL(at their more dancy), 808 state but all mixed and moulded into such an often overwhelming sea of sound’n’ beats. The pace is slowed briefly here and there, but for the most part this is very hectic and break-neck. All in all a very satisfying trip down memory-lane in fine hectic and brain frying fashion.
