Starving weirdos - Live [Digitalis Industries - 2007]Live offers up three untitled Starving weirdos tracks/ jams reordered in three different locations across the states- it’s part of Arroyo Subscription Services Series and well worth track down if you’re a fan of the SW. First up we have a track recorded at Arcata Bike Library Warehouse, it starts off with a light eerier shower of lose rhythmic gong and tinkling like tones but soon a sawing guitar tone enters, really painting a great dank subterranean feel of a gone astray and turned murderous hippy ritual. As weird 3d like tinkling tones dance like blood soaked virgins seemingly soon to fall in torch light around the guitar tones, as they bend out guttural chugs, demonic weaves. The whole tracks keeps a nice balance between the guitar and more violent tones, with the tinkling and sinister subtle tones- towards the end of the 25 minute tracks there’s some great smashing tones that will make you nicely jump. Next up is Mr T’s Bowl Bottled Smoke fest which starts off with some crowd chatter and one of SW introducing them self’s. The track is quite a departure for the SW as they use a lot more manipulated field recordings such as motor runnings, water sounds, bird songs over the top of this slow ‘n’ creepy organ type unfold, which is weaved with layers of strange percussive matter. Latter on some quite comical kids toy like whizzing are adding in which makes this bizarre, tense track even stranger. Lastly we have a track from Synapsis Art space which feels like an improvising on themes from the track Cypress Groves that appeared on their first none cdr release Father Guru, it has that tracks disturbing & sinister manner wind up toy box tinkling , but with add sawing and quite violent guitar elements- again another great track. Another Solid release from the SW that will appeal more to long-time SW heads, but will also offer some magical sinister, tense and original atmosphere to the unconverted. Roger Batty
