Z'ev - Outwaard [Korm Plastics - 2008]Outwaard finds z’ev submerging the listening in brooding, sinister and dense musique concrete. The three tracks with-in are built from recordings made at a petting Zoo in Kleve Germany, though the way they’ve been manipulated has more in common with horror films than a child friendly atmosphere. The tracks consist of dense and often murky walls of sound made up of all manner of creaking, groaning, guttural sound, droning and creepy-ness, with often the feeling of been aquatic and dingy. The feeling and imagery through-out that seems most prevalent is that of been lost on a river surrounded by darken jungle; you slowly idle along on the last dregs of fuel on a rickety boat. Body parts and groaning faces of the living dead break the rivers stagnate stinking flow around your boat, as you move onwards towards the fuel running out and you ultimate doom and dismemberment. A nightmarish sonic soup full of eerier, rich and ominous detail, alive with tension, dread and the odd simmer of grim harmonics. It's packaged in an oversized folder with some fitting pictures of pound weed covered waters and an old Morse code machine. If you want one of these you’ll have to act first as there only ltd to 300 copies. Roger Batty
