Kid606 - Down With The Scene [Ipecac Records - 2000]taktaktaktak PHFEWBBBMMMMMMM taktaktaktak PPFFIEEEWBMM.That's how Kid606 opens this album, almost blowing up my speakers with some harsh noise. Kid606 is Miguel Depedro, a 22 year old 'kid' from California. 'Down With The Scene' is his first (and only) album on Ipecac Records.Kid606 is known for his IDM (intelligent dance music) otherwise known as drill 'n bass. With it's uncontrollable beats, glitches, noise, agression and his hilarious songtitles this music is the definition of electronic punk, and will for sure give you a headache after a couple of spins.'Down With The Scene' is not an easy listen at all. Not that it was meant to be. There are some songstructures on this album, just not a lot. The most appealing one is 'Secrets 4 Sale', a song where we can hear Mike Patton sing to the Kid's tunes. One of the cathiest tracks on the album, err... correction, the only catchy track on the album.Still I'm totally into this album. Kid606 does some great tricks with his equipment. Designing noises and sounds I've never heard before. Giving me headaches on places I didn't know they excisted. And sometimes he let's me sit back and enjoy dreamy tracks as 'For When YR Just Happy To Be Alive'. This album is a great experience. Everyone who's into IDM or drill 'n bass has to hear this. 'Down With The Scene' has noise, glitches, beats, feedback, Mike Patton, agression, and kicks the mainstream dance industry in the balls. This is some great electronic 'Punkshit'.Niels van Rongen
