Rehab - Man Under Train Situation [+3dB - 2008]Rehab is the new project from John Hegre(Jazzkammer & Noxagt) & Bjørnar Habbestad(PHO, Lemu & N- Collective). Man under train Situation is the duo's first full length and it's a manic ride into guitar improv, noise matter, quirky electronics, Cut up expansive sound scaping/ ambience and general controlled chaos. The album features nine tracks in all with each darting between been; manic, noisy and caustic, to intricate, bizarre and cluttering. Down to spaced out alien and tense. Hegre handles guitar and electronics with his guitar tone going from atmospheric, to searing, to playful and improv heavy. And Habbestad abuser Flutes and electronics- through strangely there’s are not a lot of tones here that sound like your typical flute sounds so Habbestad is clearly bending the instruments voice well out of shape. At times the tone and feeling with-in Man under train Situation rather brought to mind some of recent Sissy Specek work off the California Ax box set. But with a more harmonic and defined guitar elements, as well as some ambient and atmospheric flourishers. Man under train Situation is an effective opening shot from the pair that mangers to be both manic, atmospheric and often very rewarding. Roger Batty
