Alex Tiuniaev - I Knew Her [Cold Spring Records - 2008]I knew her is one long gracefully, majestic and building 40 minute track that mixers together soundtrack string soar, electronics, synthetic choir elements, ect Sonically this refences the likes of Phil Glass & Michael Nyman’s soundtrack work particular that for Peter Greenaway films. The track is relatively simplistic yet effective in it’s construction; basically it starts off with a looped, graceful and harmonic string loop to which Tiuniaev slowly adds in subtle electronic elements, choir raisers, more string swoons and dramatics. So the sound becomes bigger and more epic bringing to mind possible a growing light or dark cinematic sky or a film screen filling up with a cast of 1000’s. It’s all very epic, golden, majestic and life affirming in its feel & intention and not really the kind of thing you’d expect on the Cold Spring Records. As they usually release more dark ambient, noise, neo folk, ect based titles, but kudos to them for putting out something a little different. A nice long building and epic piece of soundtracking like work that will certainly be of interest to Glass & Nyman fans; As well as those who enjoy melodic, grand and soaring soundtrack works.
