Krallice - Self Titled [Profound Lore Records - 2009]Krallice take on black metal is precise, epic and virtuoso yet still blackly satisfying and often brutally speedy; this their debut presents six lengthy and complex tracks of blacked harmonic and memorable black metal craft. I guess the bands sound is best described as a mixture of speedy prog like elements of Emperor, meets Ulver around Nattens Madrigal(but with better sound quality) with harmonic prog, punk and post-rock hints thrown in too. Each track is intricate melding of riff craft, guitar virtuosos, atmospheric and darkly prog keyboards, and tight bombarding and precise drum power. The band always make sure they keep the tracks both fiery and urgent, entertaining and very memorable. Yet for all the virtuoso playing it never becomes too indulgent or show-offish, sure it’s clear they can play their instruments back to front and up side down- but they always focus in on been entraining, creative and ultimately very rewarding. Really if you dig any form of complex yet memorable metal craft you'll find this finely homed debut very satisfying, re-playable and rewarding. Krallice really do manage to harness black metal spirit into a heady and immaculately played form that is a near perfect storm Roger Batty
