Noisy Pig - Disaster 1# [Cochon Records - 2009]Noisy Pig’s boisterous, manic, daygloy and often dementedly memorable sound is a mixture of hypoactive and additive high Perrey & Kingsley quirkiness, jabbing synth punk /new-wave vibe, off-centre electro pop and careering lo-if toy based electronics. Disaster 1# is this Belgium based project first full length and it really is a love or hate kind of record opening up -straight away in it’s mannic/demented form with first track OK.K.P. which is all wonky toy dub keyboards bounce, qurky sounds & manic chanted male european children entertainer gone wrong vocals. And after that the album keeps you well and truly trapped in its manic & bouncing children’s party gone wrong vibe, and it doesn’t let you free to breath or calm down until it’s all over just over half an hours later. The tracks are mostly short and snappy around the 2 minute mark, which brings to mind another sonic reference The Residents around the Duck Stab album, and of course the short and manically memorable 40 tracks of their Commercial album- though Noisy Pig has none of The Resident's sinister or sneering edger’s. A Joyful, crazy and at times overloading début album that I can’t help but love, but caution is advised- you have to take this in the right frame of mind or I could well imagine it been grating and slightly annoying. You’ve got to just revel in its manic, wacky and highly memorable air, smiling like an idiot as it’s speeds by in it’s quirky wonder. Roger Batty
