Krga - Thousands [Debacle Records - 2009]Kgra, or Kristian Garrard. A nice little package, with nice music as well." /> | In two 3" cdr's we get to see two different sides of the Seattle-based musician Kgra, or Kristian Garrard. A nice little package, with nice music as well. The first disc takes us into a primarily acoustic soundworld. Harmonium, gong, acoustic guitar, percussion and such were all used to a mellow and dreamy effect. Elements of folk and drone are mixed, sometimes slightly processed afterwards. The result is comparable to Ginnungagap's Remeindre and Hala Strana. For disc B a different approach is chosen, this time only electronic instruments were used. Octave-pulser, digital delay and Max/MSP paint a different picture, of course. The drone remains, but things get noisier and louder, but never harsh.Somehow, as different as these two discs may seem, they do form a unity. Two sides to the same coin, the coin probably being the mind behind it. I've found I just play them in one go, while pressed onto one disc it may have come off a bit stranger to go from one mood into the other. Vinyl, with a side A and side B logically may have the same effect, but these two cutesy discs work fine as well.
