Alo Girl - Unsane [Urashima - 2009]Unsane is the first official & full length sonic offering from Italian Harsh noise project Alo Girl which is all the work of Cristiano Renzoni; runner of the Urashima label & the other half of Richard Ramirez An Innocent Young Throat-Cutter. The Black on black vinyl comes in the distinct silver ink on black card house design of the Urashima label & each side of the vinyl offers up a single caustic sonic torture & brutal tonally rollings. Side one is entitled “Marion`s last night” and last just over the 14 minute mark. The track starts out with a fast wall noise like boiling that has quite a flame- thrower type feel to it; with low down in the mix this constant runaway clicking tone much like an overrunning metronome tone at the edge of the sound. Pretty soon another layer of harsh hissing gas like tone is added on top of the original tones & other layers of harsh & punishing tonality shift & alternate with each other, along with stretched out billowing roars. For most of its life the track keeps active & textural shifting, though in its last few moments it does tend more towards wall like expanse of noise texture- through the track has a nice Nihilistic yet greyed psychedelic feel. Side two is entitled “Cut my skin now” & rolls in just over the 11 minute mark. The track starts out with jittering & agitated static tone abuse which rather brought to mind Werewolf Jerusalem type static attacks but in a slight more higher pitched register. Fairly soon it jumps into thicker fog like tones that seem to sweep & dip in a rather nice manner towards more crunching & hissing tones. Again the track has an urgent & high wire type feel to it & in it`s guts there`s this constant almost rhythmic static pulse. Again it`s active & shifting but more so with less of the Wall type dwellings of the first track; with Renzoni firing one seer tone after another at you. I think this side is my favourite of the two as it`s more agitated, shifting & varied in it`s attack.
Unsane is a competent & often textural rewarding noise attack in two side which sonically sits somewhere between the more psychedelic & shifting walls of noise by the likes of The Incapacitants & Texas bound jittering & agitated static noise of the likes of Werewolf Jerusalem or The Slasher Is The Sex Maniac.
