Gomesia - Gauze of Blackened Veils [Self-released - 2010]‘Gauze of Blackened Veils’ finds this Canadian based noise project summoning up a violent dose of blacked backwoods & psychotic sleazed Harsh noise or more active HNW attack. Over the four tracks & near on hours worth of brutal sound torture on offer here Gomesia attacks you with all manner of textured & grimly noise matter; which includes: chainsaw like judders & roars, rusting farm machinery like whirring & cuttings, low-down dirty purring tones that bring to mind decaying tractors or pick-ups slowly backing into you. Corse ‘ n’ crude colligated stee lsheet like ripping and tearing, broken generator like static electronic splatters & high pitch miss-fires, along with all manner of coarse & unpleasant sudden reels of thick dark 'n' muffled noise matter. The whole album brings to mind a very tangible feeling of murderous rednecks attacking victims in decaying barns & out buildings, or malformed & grotesquely deformed children playing with hacked & ripped body parts on creaking, blood stained wooden farm house porches that look out into thick dark, tangle & ominous forests. Most of the tracks here are fairly textural shifting, darkly juddering & sputtering in their tone & attack that’s why it’s difficult wether to define this as Harsh Noise or more active HNW- but it doesn’t really matter I guess & that in it self makes this interesting that you can’t tie in into one genre or lable. Maybe it's best just to call it nasty, ripping & exhaust choking black backwoods noise & be done with it!. The tone & pace only becomes more sluggish, thick & stretched out on the last track ‘Servant’ which is built around an erratic cattle prod like stabs, muffled static drags, flays & thick roars of texture. There are also some nice pitch black feed-back trails that smart the piece ever so often too. ‘Gauze of Blackened Veils’ is yet another different take or angle on the slowly but surely growing, violent & blacked cancer that is the HNW scene. Very worthy of your time if your like your ‘walls’ of noise more active & erratic- to find out more & buy direct drop in here. Roger Batty
