Fabio Orsi - Audio For Loves [Last Visble Dog - 2008]‘Audio For Lovers’ finds highly respected Italian mood setter Fabio Orsi offering up two disc & two hours worth of emotional & nostalgic rich ambient music. The album sees Orsi utilizing his usual mixture of stuck & poignant gitar scape, sad, melodic & creaking piano dwells, aged analogue synth matter & a sprinkling of emotive & hazy field recordings. Disc one takes in a selection of ten shorter pieces which all have the word ‘love’ in their titles & bizarrely are either one minute forty seconds, six minutes twenty four seconds or a straight eight minutes in length( I guess this must all mean something?!). The ten tracks move from stuck in amber love lost guitar dwells that simmer with aged synth textures & the odd warming to hazy bass tone, onto hurt & slow piano unfolds deep in reverb & melodic air, through to grand & hazed banks of raising analogue synth textures & purring golden organ drones. It’s all very pleasing, but has a very distinct melancholy & out-of-time feel running through out it all. Like it could be could have been laying on some dusty & cobweb lick shelve for the last twenty years among piles of aged love letters & yellowed love lost photos, and somehow the letters & photos emotional flavour & sadness have leaked into the sonic grains of the music. The second disc offers up only four tracks with each track falling between the thirteen & eighteen minute mark a picec. These tracks are much more hazed & varied in the use of sound with the tracks drifting from: building 70’s ambient popol Vuh like organ & guitar repetition, onto bobbing & bright synth expanse littered with subtle & slightly spacey guitar harmonics, through to rising analogue synth dwells & harmonic sunrises. This second disc feels less earth bound & emotional hurt in it’s intent & vibe, and would suit well either footage of slowly expanding star systems, vast & slowly shifting desert scape fly overs or slow over-land drifts with the greenery turning to mountains turning to forest & beyond. It all feels a lot grander & soaring with at times almost having a slowed sort of post-rock vibe running through it. All told a very enjoyable two disc set from Fabio Orsi showing two different sides to his ambient & atmospheric craft with disc one been more emotionally grounded in human loss & love. And the second disc finding him soaring & dipping through the clouds & beyond for more length & epic mood setting. Roger Batty
