Unearthered - Death Kiss [Praire Fire - 2010]With “Death Kiss” London based HNW project Unearthered (aka Robert Meldrum who’s also in corpse Candle & Ghoul). Offers up two lengthy, intense and horror fed tracks of near unmoving and brutal ‘wall making”. Up first we have “Giving Death A Kiss” which starts out with the meeting of low-down and slightly delayed judders that at just over the minute mark sudden jump to a full formed and un-impenetrable noise ‘wall’. The ‘wall’ is built around a looped ‘n’ stalking furnace roar and a tighter metallic jiitter meets slight static jumping element. Meldrum rolls out this ‘wall for just over the twenty minutes, and keeps it fairly locked and brutal through-out. With the ‘wall’ nicely enclosing around you in a grim, rewarding and trace inducing manner. Secound & lastly we have “Trinity” which is the longest of the two tracks here- it runs at just shy of the forty three minute mark. It starts out with a sudden advancing and flesh frying roar, which with in a minute turns into a squealing metal wheel judder that’s underfeed by a dry, hopeless and persistent roar. As with the first track things remain extremely focused and stayed in it’s tone & sonic progression. I really like the more squealing wheel tone here as it really gives the track an nice intense urgency which really hammers out a nice panicked, suffocating and inescapable vibe that doesn’t let-up until the tracks over. So “Death Kiss” gives the egger ‘wall-head’ two nice, lengthy, punishing and intense walls from this great UK based project. Roger Batty
