Flesh Coffin - Crawling in Chaos [Moribund Tree Records - 2010]

“Crawling In Chaos” finds the highly talented & prolific Norwegian noise-head Andreas Brandal (Flesh coffin, Hour Of the Wolf, Drevne Bolesti, solo work, ect) creating a texturally varied and horror atmosphere rich mixture of detailed junk metal composition & seared yet brooding noise matter.

This c40 tape's cover really doesn’t  sell the great, serrated yet  highly creative noise treats inside- it really looks more like the artwork for grim and Scandinavian themed black metal release; with it’s snow shrouded evergreen landscape  & gothic scripted texts.

On offer here are four tracks in all, with two tracks per-side. The opening track “I” takes us on a highly detailed, often edgy and muilti-layered junk metal journey that cleverly balances intriguing sound elements, seared creativeness & creepy/dusty atmospherics. With the track nicely slipping out in its last few minutes with shimmering & morbid drone atmospherics . “II” sounds like a  dark sci-fied trip on an alien clinging tank with it’s mixture of: droning & rolling noise texturing,  tightly cut-ups, insect like and semi industrial junk metal detail, and heady/ brooding clouds of  radio wave whines ‘n’ grain.

Flipping over to side two and  firstly we have “III” which starts out as a juddering and screaming noise storm with doomed harmonic tinges/ undercurrents and serrated metal atmospherics.  But as the track goes on we wonder into: subdued and atmospheric noise dwells, all manner of interesting textural detail, sudden swells of great chugging and tolling guitar textures. And industrlized loop like mixes that appear from under the jitter static rain like textures of the tracks later depths. “IV”  starts out as a mixture of: manic junk hammering, atmospheric wind billowing and liquid rushing and steel ball falling sounds, then just as the track comes towards it’s end it drifts into this beautiful, haunting and eerier horn like throb- which makes for a great dramatic end to both the track and the tape.

“Crawling In Chaos” is another exciting, textually varied and highly creative trip into the noise and experimental talents of Flesh Coffin. Simple put Mr Brandal is one of the most rewarding, consistent and inspired talents working in today’s underground experimental scene  & this is another must have item!.
