Brown - Brown Rainbow [Infinite Whin/Latant Recordings - 2008]One thing I should mention about this limited edition of 50 copies, it's pressed on a silk-screened black CDr, which I've heard tend to degrade faster. I know of one Dark Ambient/Industrial artist from Ohio who put both the master and existing copies of one early release of his exclusively on black CDrs and all the discs rotted, meaning he lost most of the recordings. So I should say to the artists that if these tracks mean anything to them they should save them to a format more durable. That out of the way, Brown appears to be exclusively an experimental ambient project. I wish I knew more, except all they have now is a myspace page that doesn't give out much info, although they do have a large back catalogue... The first track is what I mainly focus on, as it reminds me very much of Organum, or their more ambient tendencies anyways, complete with the bowed cymbals. I would like to see this duo try to expand on this aspect of the release, as the second track tends to be a bit pastel-colored New Age for me (although nothing outright terrible.) And that's about it, really, as this CDr really only lasts less than 30 minutes. I think Brown may have something here as far as the first track goes -- lets hope they saved that recording so it's not lost... Lawrence J. Patti
