Alo Girl - Catharsis [Small Doses - 2010]‘Catharsis’ finds brutal yet creative Italian HNW project Alo Girl (which is of course is all the work of Cristiano Renzoni- whose also the other half of An Innocent Young Throat-Cutter & runs of the great Urashima label) offering up a single fifteen track of ultra thick and punishing HNW. The 3inc cdr features a grim ‘n’ stark close-up line drawing of a frayed rope, and this is very fitting as the track mostly feels like a tightly bound collection of tones; though here and there the tones subtle shift, nearly break-down( but never do) or split out, much like rope does. Though-out the track Renzoni creates a brutal, thick yet subtle detailed wall of seared sound that both engulfs the listener but also entrances too. He moves sputters, jitters and rushing textures through the walls mid-paced and heavy mid-range sonic wall construction, yet it mostly remains very firm and deep in its textural and sonic weight. So ‘Catharsis’ is another very fine and detailed execution of the HNW form by one of the most consistent and creative names in the European wall scene. Roger Batty
