Ascites - Resection [Gaping Hole/Scratch And Sniff Entertainment - 2010] | This is a single sided c40 tape release from this three piece Harsh Noise/ HNW project from Dallas Texas. Like many of this projects other releases the tracks here often blur the line between dense Harsh noise & HNW. The tape finds the pair offering up one near on fourteen minute track and a second just over six minute track. First up we have ‘Clamp, Cut, Tie’ which is the longer of the two tracks, and this enters with a rapid cluttering ‘n’ churning wall of noise tone which sounds like your inside a slightly malefaction piece of farming equipment; say something like an automated potato collector or cabbage collector. With-in the first few minutes of the track more cluttering, grating, rumbling ‘n’ brutally tumbling sounds are added to the wall of sound, and it all starts to get wonderfully overwhelming as it seemingly attacking you from all sides. Nearing the five minute mark an tearing ‘n’ searing electro arching sound is added to the mix, as the whole track starts to become less consistent and looped in it’s feel with great crashing ‘n’ tonally smashes falling through the track; as if cogs ‘n’ gears are going lose and smashing around inside the machine. By the 8th minute great purges of electro tone are smashing and manically feeding into the structure, and these are nearly completely stopping the tracks internal tone motor. The last few minutes sees the track imploding in lots of small attacks of electro detonation meet broken stomach pump tonalities and arching electronics. Then once more for the last few seconds it melds into a boorish and thick wall of bass bruised wall matter. So secondly and lastly we have the track ‘Reanastomosis’ which smashers straight in with a violent and fast paced mixture of electro billowing ‘n’ smarting, noise storming meets boiling wall grain. It keeps trying to form into a thick and consistent wall of brutal sound, but it keeps get raged and torn apart by either screaming high pitched noise stretchers, sped-up and raged vocal like gabble, or huge rapid ‘n’ rumbling tone descents. By the end of the tapes twenty minute run you feel sonically battered and bruised yet strangle invigorated by the ride. So if your looking for a brutal and rewarding release that’s neither HNW or plan Hash noise, but a fired-up mixture of the two then ‘Resection’ could well be for you. Roger Batty
