Concrete Threat - Young Blood [self release - 2011]“Young Blood” sees the return of this ultra-grim & murderous two piece HNW project from Sweden. This new release only offers up just under six minutes of playtime, but boy it’s an bowl wrenching ‘n’ ear pounding great six mintues worth of noise texturing . The three inch business card disc comes in a small see-through plastic folder which features a unique cover image/ picture for each of this releases ten copies(mine features a rather creepy picture of what looks like a child standing at the end of a bed), and it’s wrapped up in red gift ribbon. It all kind of looks like the kind of thing you’d get sent by a deranged stalker or serial killer- which all adds to the tracks atmosphere and brutally unsettling feel. The track starts out with this great two pronged judder meets rotating jitter like texture- I guess the best way to explain the texture is it’s like the sound of a rotating fan or spoked wheel that’s slowed down, then bass jitter and shred slightly. This first part last until the three minute mark when we pause briefly for a few seconds of either a women or a child speaking( I cant quite make out what’s been said as it’s over too fast) then we drop back into rotating juddering again, but it’s much more muffled and bass battered then it was to start with, this remains like this for the rest of the track save the last 40 seconds or so when it returns to a jittering and crackle bound spoked wheel like juddering. All in all it’s a great, creepy and unsettling wall of textured noise. So in summing “Young Blood” offers up quite a different and more textural sound from this projects usual very thick, dark and raging attack. With the home-made and disturbing packing adding to the ‘walls’ brutal and disturbed feel- very much look forward to hearing what this project does next. Roger Batty
