An Innocent Young Throat-Cutter - ...So You'll Die Pretty [Bored Bear Recordings - 2011]“...So You'll Die Pretty” is the third of twelve 3inch CDR releases that are been released by Irelands Bored Bear recordings. Each release in the series celebrate and pays tribute to one of the many projects of highly influential & respected Texas noise artist's Richard Ramirez. An Innocent Young Throat-Cutter is one of the more know of Ramirez's many giallo influenced projects, and it finds him collaborating with Italian based Cristiano Renzoni- whose main project is Alo Girl and he also runs the great HNW/noise vinyl label Urashima. After a quick scout around the internet it seems the tracks title doesn’t seem to relate to any one particular giallo movie, as this projects titles often do, but you can certainly imagine a badly dubbed black glove killer saying something like this. The single track on offer here comes in at just over the twenty one minute mark and it starts out as a blown out and coarse ‘wall’ of two tone juddering static. As the track moves towards the two minute mark one of the layers of static judder seems to slowing down to a more jerky and creeper pace, sounding I guess a bit more like a gloomy and melancholic rain storm. Just around the nine minute mark there’s a few sudden switchers in the walls grain which nicely messes with your head. This rather neat & sudden grain switch happens a few other times through-out the rest of the track, so you never get too comfy with-in the walls textural attack. All told it’s a great track, and it really brings to mind some ghastly and brutal murder taking place in an autumnal Rome or Venice.
The cover artwork features a sensual yet creepy black and white picture of a dark hair mediterranean looking woman with her arms crossed. She’s either sitting on a bed or chair with knee length boots on, and a short or none existence skirt. The picture nicely fits the dark/ gloomy yet perversely sensual/ homicidal feel of the track. An Innocent Young Throat-Cutter has always been one of my favourite Ramirez projects, and “...So You'll Die Pretty” is another great release from the project. This is certainly my favourite thus far of this series, and it’s a must have item for those who enjoy clever ‘wall-making’ thats both brutal and highly atmospheric. Roger Batty
