Hellbeast - Within The Womb of Satan [Jeshimoth Entertaiment - 2011]“Within The Womb of Satan” offers up 15 tracks worth of semi groovy, wonky and tribal beat heavy & simplistic blacked death metal laced with up-front growled and echo chamber heavy cookie monster vocals. The album mangers (often at the same time) to sound dark, morbid, silly and more than a little darkly quirky. After having a brief scan of the net I sadly cant seem to find anything about the Hellbeast project, but this is put out on Jeshimoth Entertaiment label- the home of Pumpkin Buzzard(the alt rock meets crazed multi genre collective) and Jute Gyte( Black metal, industrial, dark electroincia and sinster IDM one man project). So I suspect this project somehow related to the members of either Pumpkin Buzzard or Jute Gyte. I’ll have to admit I’m not really a big fan of blacked death metal in genreal, as I find it like a lot of extreme metal genres a little samey and very much repeating the same things the genres orignators did. But I give Hellbeast their dues as they do manage to summon up a impressive lo-fi blacked punk/ hardcore tipped sound which blurs together the guitars, bass, tribal drums into a semi groovy blacked mass, with the guttural vocals very high in the mix on top. There are also odd hints of grinding and rudimentary keyboard organ textures in a few tracks too. Each of the 15 tracks follows a fairly similar mid-paced to semi galloping pace, and if there’s one thing that really does rather let the release down is by the time you get to the 15th track you’re a little sick & tried of the sound- but if you take the album in smaller doses it's certainly more rewarding. “Within The Womb of Satan” is yet another rather quirky & fairly originaly sounding release from Jeshimoth Entertaiment, so if you like dig your metal with a dark yet playful, wonky and groovy edge this could well be for you.
