Marcus Fjellström - Library Music 1 [Kafkgarden - 2011]“Library Music 1” offers up eighteen tracks of fairly short but creative & varied mock library music from Swedish composer & multimedia artists Marcus Fjellström, whose most know for his mixing of classical & electronic elements on albums such as Exercises In Estrangement , Gebrauchsmusik & Schattenspieler. Where as Fjellström's past work has often been quite drawn out and lengthy in it’s gloom/ dramatic unfold, most tracks on offer here fall between just under the two to three minute mark a piece with the longest track here nearing the four and a half minute mark. The tracks are very soundtrack like as one would imagine with library music, but there also very well put together and thought out too. Over the eighteen tracks Fjellström touches down in aged and dusty electronica, contemporary classical music dwells, electro vibe prettiness, creaking and grainy string swoons. Edgy, jerky and creepy piano unfolds, aged & faded carnival/ fairground waltz, and beyond. The album packaging is a simple card slip case cover which features a few grainy child like drawings, notations listings & circuit diagrams on it’s cover- so Fjellström leaves it very open for you to imagine your own flimatic themes/ images to his varied musical accompaniment. I’ve very much enjoyed Fjellström past work, and this again is a very enjoyable, atmophric and well put together collection that shows Fjellström ability to take on all manner of varied & sometimes quirky musical genres and put his own haunting and dramatic stamp on them.
