White Gimp Mask - Untitled [Inactivist Recordings - 2011]This new untitled CDR from Texas based White Gimp Mask offers up two half an hour slices of moorish, persistent & unrelenting walled noise that are sure to brutalize & hypnotize the listener in equal measures. The White Gimp Mask project appeared in mid 2010, and since then it's amassed 20 plus release that take in a fair few splits, a few full length cdrs & a couple of tapes. The projects the solo outlet of Robert Newsome whose also in various projects such as: Black Leather Jesus, The Girl In The Wooden Horse Torture, Streetmeat & Four Flies. The two thirty minute tracks presented on this CDR are both untitled. Track number one is a fairly standard two pronged 'wall' attack- WGM bounds together a stuck roaring gale like noise tonality with a more detailed locked juddering ‘n’ jittering static tone. The ‘wall’ unfolds in a dense ‘n’ inclosing manner for it’s full length, and there’s no really shift or movement to speak of here. All told the tracks a rather text box example of unmoving HNW- yet it’s moorish & involving to. Track number two sees WGM strip things down a bit with a mixture of distant cable drone been brutalized by a juddering ‘n’ bass shorting noise tone. To start with this track induces quite a panic & edgy state in the listener as the juddering ‘n’ shorting tone keeps jumping on & on; but as the track goes on and you get accustomed to it’s arch ‘n’ jump electro cable loop, you start to get quite drawing into the track consistent structure which somehow seems to becoming denser & thicker minute by minute. Yet just like the first track this is once more fixed & unmoving in it’s stucture, and the thickening/depth building is all an illusion of ones mind. So this CDR offers up one fairly text book yet hypnotic slices of HNW, and one more stripped, urgent yet equal entrancing slice of walled noise. All told the release is consistent, if unremarkable offering, but it's well worth a look if you dig unmoving HNW. Roger Batty
