Jute Gyte - Communicants [Jeshimoth Entertainment - 2011]“Communicants” finds Missouri’s Jute Gyte serving up a mixture of: uneasy ‘n’ unwell synth texturing, lo-fi & wonky electro beat patterns, wavering & sickly electronica, off-kilter & sour ambience, and genreal warped & bent electronics. The Jute Gyte project has been around for since 2006, and since then they’ve jump from & mixed various musical genres together going from: bleak ambience with noise blasts, onto all out noise wall building , through to violently cut-up musique concrete, onto sinister IDM, through to bleak clunking mix of ambience and industrial tone, and in the last few years experimental black metal. “Communicants” offers up five tracks in all, and they date from between early 2008 to August 2009. The tracks last between just over the nine minute mark up to just over the twenty minute mark. The tracks vary from slowly building wavering synth uneasy & beats of the opener “Basalt”. through to the squashed micro beats, looped wind field recording textures, and unwell electro vibes ‘n’ wonky synth air of “Thaxted”. To the distant harmonic yet uneasy drone ‘n’ billow meets minimal skipping beat scapes opening of the last track “Vom Strande” which later on adds in gloomy layers 50’s haunted house organ & vibe like done like uneasy. So “Communicants” is a deeply unwell ‘n’ wonky collection of sickly electronica, unwell ambience, and genreal electronic unease/ sourness. With each track offering up it’s own uneasy & sour sonic charms. So if you dig sombre & sickly electronic based music this is well worth a look, as it’s another well put together & distinctive release from this great project. Roger Batty
