Traitors - Recluse [Self Release - 2012]Traitors is a Dutch one man HNW/ Harsh noise that started in April 2011, but since late 2011 it has been purely HNW. The project has amassed 12 or so mainly CDR releases in a self released format. “Recluse is a CDR release that offers up two 25 to 30 minute slices of walled noise. The first untitled track is built around a locked fairly active juddering ‘n’ churning semi bassy ‘wall’ that’s jittered by crisper tonalities. It’s a fairly standard example of fixed & unmoving walled noise and sadly it rather lacks any identity of it’s own. The crisper static tonalities are quite effective & entrancing at times, but ultimately the track rather left me rather underwhelmed & unimpressed. The second untitled track is thankfully a little more rewarding. This 30.41 wall is built around a churning ‘n’ roaring juddering that’s played over by a locked set of smaller, muffled & skipping static tonalities. This ‘wall’ has a nice meaty ‘n’ dirty feel to it, and it’s particular effective when your mind gets locked into crude judder repetitive meaty loops of noise texture. Again this ‘wall’ is fairly unmoving in it’s feel, yet it’s a lot more appealing & rewarding than the first track. So a rather mixed bag of a release, as the first track is a rather underwhelming example of unmoving walled noise, but the second track does improve things making this worth pick-up for the second track alone.
