Red Mannequin Rape - Fruiting Bodies [Bored Bear Recordings - 2012]“Fruiting Bodies” is the third in series of twelve monthly three inch CDR releases that are to be put out through-out 2012 by Ireland's Bored Bear Recordings. Each release in this new series offers up a debut release from one of twelve new projects that are been put together by highly influential & respected Texas noise artist Richard Ramirez. Red Mannequin Rape is a solo Ramirez project, and I guess from what’s on offer here you’d say the project was a mixture of fairly active ‘n’ harsh droning noise, and higher pitched/ grating sheets of Harsh noise, with maybe the odd dwell in wall-ish territory….but really this is more of a harsh ‘n’ dense drone meets seared ‘n’ ear melt harsh noise atttack. Subject wise it seems to be brutal horror themed On offer here is a single self titled track that comes in at the 21.41 mark. The track slowly edges in with this distant to sudden close-up bank of roasting & flaming textures, these seems to awkwardly & often jerkily drift into ear shot of each of the textures used. The tones seem grow & intensify as the track progresses, yet Ramirez still keeps jerking the textures layers back & forth to creating this almost hot air balloon burner like vibe as the layers of noise short in ‘n’ out. At times it edges towards almost wall-ish like dwells, but these never really fully form for an really length of time as the layers keep edging & shifting. At around about the 9.20 point a juddering higher pitch tone with rising high pitched sustain sears in, and pretty soon things get really nasty & ear bleeding active as Ramirez adds in a mixture of shunting ‘n’ mid tone noise, which suddenly swells & rises with more sustained & pained high tone points. Around the 14 minute mark you get the odd break out of lower toned crusty ‘n’ pummelling electro bombardments, but these are few & far between as most of the time the tones are of a mid to higher tone in there feeling. It’s only in the last minute or so well it very nicely locks down into a slow churning ‘n’ roasting mid to lower toned noise swirls. I cant say this is one of my favourite of Ramirez’s projects, as it’s all a little too active for my liking & I’m not a great fan of high pitched tonality in noise. But I can certainly appreciate the boiling yet controlled vibe he maintains here. Roger Batty
