Furfur - Nure-onna [Bored Bear Recordings - 2012]“Nure-onna” is the 5th in series of twelve monthly three inch CDR releases that are to been put out through-out 2012 by Ireland's Bored Bear Recordings. Each release in this new series offers up a debut release from one of twelve new projects that are been put together by highly influential & respected Texas noise artist Richard Ramirez. Furfur is somewhat of a noise collective that features: Richard Ramirez, Thomas Mortigan(RU-486 , Black Leather Jesus, Naked Girl Killed In The Park), Spike The Percussionist(Selk), and Sean E. Matzus(The Secret Geography, Last Rape, Thewhitehorse, Black Leather Jesus, ect). What’s on offer here is best described as quite shifting & often dense noise type jamming….think a much less perverse, slightly cryptic & atmospheric take on Black Leather Jesus at their more jammed-out noise format, and you’ll get an idea of the sound here. There’s also a noised up sort of deep dark ambient vibe present here too The 3inch cdr features just a single near on twenty two minute track entitled “Nure-onna”- this title takes it’s name from the Japanese folk lore name for an amphibious creature with the head of a woman and the body of a snake. The tracks built around a dense & shifting mixture of : subterranean noise drone billowing, cluttering & forking junk metal matter, darkened ‘n’ brooding drone shifts, eerier & buried radio textures, low end juddering, and the odd dwell in brooding walled noise. The track does nicely bring to mind images of huge slithering leviathan , so the tracks title is rather apt. So to sum up “Nure-onna” is an dense, shifting & brooding shot of jam based noise matter that has a rather effective brooding darken underbelly. Roger Batty
