Jute Gyte - Isolation [Jeshimoth Entertainment - 2012]“Isolation” finds this Missouri based multi-genre project in their black metal setting, but this been Jute Gyte this is far from standard or common garden black metal by any means. The albums seven tracks are full of complex ‘n’ dense black metal riffing that’s weaved with odd time signatures, unbalancing polyrhythm’s & blacked/bleak progressive elements. The tracks dip & darting into grim psychedelic interludes, Math rock complexities & the odd sombre ambient synth dwell. Mostly of the albums seven tracks focus around dense & interlocking riff constructions, with thickly weaved walls of guitar craft that mainly go from mid-paced to fairly clamouring through deeply controlled black metal craft. The tracks spiral with complex, though never showy, sombre yet shredding guitar craft that takes in: controlled gung-ho punk-iness, face slamming metallic’s, pumped-up American indie rock forlornness, American blacked metal craft, creative grim discord & hints at harmonic rock texturing. Really only one track here departs fully from the dense & complex black metal craft over it's full running time, and that’s the title track. It's built around melancholic yet oddly psychedelic layers of blossoming organ/ synth like hazes & ebbs, though towards the end the track drifts into a solitary weaving synth tone. All told “Isolation” is another complex, creative & shredding bit of black metal craft from Jute Gyte. And like pretty much everything else on the excellent Jeshimoth Entertainment label, it really needs more praise & attention than the little it gets. Roger Batty
