Die Reitenden Leichen - Rauschen & Simulation [The Order Of The HNW - 2011]“Rauschen & Simulation” is the 4th volume in the The Order Of The HNW series- each release in this series presents a walled noise recording by a respected HNW act, and a related HNW text. Die Reitenden Leichen is a German based wall noise project that’s been around since 2009. This releases inlay follows the same house style of all this series release with a stark, simply yet highly effective black & white cover artwork, featuring just three overlaid black blocks. Also as with all the release in the series we get some HNW themed text, and this volume features German text that talks about HNW ideology- the text is available in a English translation on the The Order Of The HNW blog. The CDR offers up four fairly varied slices of walled noise. Open up the release we have “Introduktion (Introduction)”, which comes in at just under the three minute mark, and this mixers together high pitched jittering with a line of crackling mid-ranged static. Next is the just under 11 minutes & 20 seconds of “Die Simulation (The Simulation)”, and this starts with the last tracks mix of jittering high-pitched & crackling mid ranged noise, but it quickly adds in a taut jittering low-end texture. By the minute mark the other tracks elements have faded & we’re left with the taut elector cable like juddering noise drone, but as this goes on a more crunching/ hacking feel starts to rise in the track’s ‘wall’ and this seems to get more seared/ agitated as the track progressing on in a buzzing ‘n’ head drilling manner, with the odd 'n' sudden sustain static white-outs from time to time. Track three cames in at the 14 minute mark & is entitled “Das Rauschen (The Hissing)”, and this is I guess best described as taut ANW. The track brings together an endless locked low-to-mid end juddering/ rumbling which seems to be muffled & faded, with a sustained & piercing higher tone. Around the 4 minute mark a very striped line of juddering crackle is added into the ‘wall’, and this stays in the mix till the tracks end. This 'walls' a very effective mixture of almost organic type rumble & glitchly electro drilling like texturing. Lastly we have the just under Eleven & a half minutes of “Die Implosion (The Implosion)”. And this is the most varied track on offer here going from: a mixture of distant ominous fog horn recordings & jittering/ agitated muffled noise tones, to juddering cracking mixtures mid & higher ranged tones, to mangled mid ranged manic jittering’s that are under fed by a blow-out exhaust like low end purrings. All told “Rauschen & Simulation” is a varied & rewarding walled noise ride that takes you through both HNW & ANW. I think this is one of my favourite release thus far from this project, as it’s consistent through out & all the tracks are well though-out mixes of brutality & atmosphere. Roger Batty
