Pooh - Pooh’s House [Muzikaal Kabaal - 2012]Pooh finds UK HNW maker James Killick once again choosing a quirky & unlikely subject for his new walled noise project. The projects is based around that of the most famous of bears/childhood creations Winnie the pooh. “Pooh’s House” is this projects opening release, and it comes in the form of a two track CDR that offers up just under twenty minutes of playtime. Track one is entitled “Mr. Sanders”, and the 9.39 minute track starts with a sample from a Pooh Bear story tape or film, with a very English sounding man talking about Winnie the Pooh living under the name of Sanders. Then with-in a few seconds we’re into the ‘wall’ which is a dense/ constant mixture of crackling, rolling, fixed billowing & jittering mid-ranged noise, and ever so often a bounding/jarring off- pattern rumbling static tone is added on top. The ‘wall’ is nicely dense & full through-out, and the sudden off-pattern textural sustains add the needed fun element to the proceedings, and of course they rather bring to mind the bumbling/ accident prone spirit of Pooh bear. Track two is entitled “A Bear Of Very Little Brain”, and comes in at the slightly longer ten minute mark. Once again it starts off with a sample from a Pooh Bear story, and this time it’s about his clock. With-in a few seconds we’re into ‘wall’, and it offers up a crisp ‘n’ dense sort of crackling static rain storm, which falls around you in a quite pleasing manner- the crackling, pitter pattern & sometimes skipping textures really do suck you into a rather noisy yet comfy sound place. “Pooh’s House” offers up a fun to comforting take on the walled noise sound. So if your after some creative walled noise that doesn’t take it’s self too seriously this is well worth a look. Roger Batty
