Jute Gyte - Andreyev's Lazarus [Jeshimoth Entertainment - 2012]I remember releasing a very short track by Jute Gyte on a compilation ages ago, but after that I lost track of his work. I’ve heard good things about his noisy black metal output from quite a few friends, so I was very happy to have the chance to listen to this "Andreyev's Lazarus" CDr. First track "Droste" is a maelstrom of static noise and corrupted digital sounds, feedback and sputters. The mass of noise is very akin to harsh noise wall, but the layering of a thousand different sources makes this track extremely dynamic. "Perlin" opens with the same chunk of grainy distortion surmounted by heavily delayed shouts and feed backing microphones. Subtle changes and additions occur during the whole length of the track without letting it derail from its well paved path. The extreme care Jute Gyte puts in panning and overlaying is perhaps more evident here than in the first track. The mangled and disquieting vocals in the third track "Aboulia" are probably my favorite thing about this CDr. The excellent choice of vocal looping and the way it mixes with harsh noise reminded me a bit NON. The variety of sounds implemented on this track gently tingled my ear's taste buds and made me remember why I love pure noise so much. Last number of the set, "Lazarus" is another massive wall of static and crunch. Clocking at an impressive twenty-four minutes of length, it's a good mix of all the elements of this record. The "quiet" and weird digital fuckery at the end is the perfect conclusion for an excellent journey. Jute Gyte definitely does some great work here. For once digital and analog sounds blend together perfectly and the whole record feels like a cohesive and proper "album". Recommended to all fans of American harsh noise. Nicola Vinciguerra
