Tomorrow I'll Shoot Myself in the Mouth - Sunday [Le Crépuscule du soir Productions - 2012]

“Sunday” is the second release from this grim ‘n’ pained Italian project whose work is  built around doomed piano runs & suicidal screams. Behind the project is Lorenzo Abbà who is most known for  suicidal walled-noise project Nascitari, and running the Italian walled noise label Claustrophilia Records.

I was very much taken by “Useless”, this projects first release on  Smell The Stench records last year, so I was very looking forward to hearing this new release. “Sunday” features in all six track which run between just under five to seven & a half minutes a piece. The recording & execution of the tracks here feel a bit more polished than those on “Useless”, which for me is one of the downfalls of this release.

All six tracks feature slow clunking marches of mostly discordant & shapeless piano work that is overfed by pained & turmoil ribbed screams/ bays.  From time to time added to these two elements are the slow plod of crashing drum beats too. Sadly I found all six tracks here fairly similar in feel and  execution, where as on “Useless” there where hints at doomed melody & separation from one track and another- here each track finds the piano  been hammered & banged in very similar manner. Also the vocals here don’t feel as shocking, varied or chilling as before, and they often just sound like slowed down black metal screeches.

On the plus side the better production sees some interesting added layers of piano texture on top of the monotonous  & discordant marches. And from time to time the drums are quite effective in added a more pained marching vibe. But on the whole I’m afraid to say I found the tracks here too shapeless & similar for their own good.

I really tried to like “Sunday”, as I was so taken by “Useless”, and of course I very much enjoy Lorenzo Abbà walled noise work. But ultimately I’m afraid to say there’s just not enough variation & shape to the tracks here to make this a rewarding or consistent release.
