Bog Queen - Dogging Afternoon [Bored Bear Recordings - 2012]“Dogging Afternoon” is 12th in series of twelve monthly three inch CDR releases, which are been put out through-out 2012 by Ireland's Bored Bear Recordings. Each release in this new series offers up a debut release from one of twelve new projects that are been put together by highly influential & respected Texas noise artist Richard Ramirez. The Bog Queen project finds Ramirez collaboration with his long term partner & fellow Texas noise artist Sean E. Matzus(of [Untitled], Last Rape, A week of Kindness, The Whitehorse, Black Leather Jesus). This project is best described as a mixture of muffled gay porn samples, grey & muffled old school industrial ambient soundscaping, and muffled/ fairly subtle noise texturing- through from time to time there are some more seared & pointed high tone textures here. The release offers up two tracks, and first of these is “Old Habits”. The just under ten minute track mixes together distant guy porn samples, warbling & higher pitched tone stretches, & subtle slapping/ banging like noise texturing- the track has a very drowsy/ drug hazed sort of sleazy air to it, as if you drifting in & out of a consciousness- at times the high pitch tones get quite pointed/ harsh, but then the they sort of drift & fade once more.
Track two is entitled “Anonymous Fucked”, and this comes in at just over the ten minute mark. This track goes further into hazed/ drowsy sleazed feel of the first track- it users distant gay porn hitchhiking chatter sample, slightly morphed & melted traffic field recordings, and muffled sort of slow-mo industrial grate & dragging. Latter on we get a few subtle higher pitched noise tone darts, along with what sounds like aircraft fly over type recordings- but for the most part the track remains nicely hazed & drowsy in it’s feel I must say I rather enjoyed the hazed/drowsy air that the pair create here, and I guess you’d say it’s like a more stripped down & out-focus take on some of Black Leather Jesus material. Lets hope they go onto to do a full length with this project, as I feel the hazed ‘n’ sleazy vibe of this project would be most effective in a longer format. Roger Batty
