The Outside Agency - The Dogs Are Listening [Ad Noiseam - 2012]The Outside Agency are a Dutch duo who brew-up a dark ‘n’ brooding mixture of: Hardcore techno, dub step, break core & crossbreed(a mix of hardcore and drum & bass). Though the project has been in existence since 1996, release around 50 singles & EP’s, 2012’s “The Dogs Are Listening” is the project first proper full length. The album features eleven tracks in all, and these pretty evenly last between the five to six minute mark. Most of the eleven tracks are a mean ‘n’ moody mixtures of intensely pounding electronic beats & slamming bass/sub bass lines, and brooding & darkly atmospheric synth/ electronic texturing, and grimly sc-fi/ futuristic horror movie samples. Through-out the album nicely keeps a fairly even balance the face slamming beats ‘n’ bass, and more cinematic & moody backing. All told the album gives one the feeling of being a soundtrack to some overloaded, violent, yet dark & moodily tipped dystopian sci-fi movie. “The Dogs Are Listening” mangers to be both intense, moody & often memroble for most of it’s running time. And unlike some projects from this scene The Outside Agency focus on keeping a good balance between memorably, kneck- snapping beats ‘n’ bass, and dark moodiness, all making this a fairly varied & rewarding release through-out Roger Batty
