Bone Grinder/Sleep Column - Split [Vomit Bucket Productions - 2013]This split CDR release brings together two half-an-hour plus slices of unforgiving walled noise. It consists of a track a piece from the following: German based Bone Grinder, which is one of the other projects cannibal & horror movie obsessed Ronald L (Cannibal Ritual, Bloodcraving & Werewolf Women Of The SS). And Russian based super prolific Sleep Column (the project has released around 200 releases since it started in 2011) So first up we have the Bone Grinder track, and this untitled track comes in at the 28.38 mark. The ‘wall’ is a lo-fi ‘n’ crude brew of rumbling ‘n’ juddering low-to-mid range noise tones- sound wise the ‘wall’ is quite thin sounding , and speed wise it fairly rapid in it’s attack. The textures remain fixed & set through-out the track, and while it’s far from original or particularly creative I must say I rather enjoyed the crude ‘n’ relentless feel of the track, and it managed to keep my attention through-out it’s full run-time. So of course up second we have the Sleep Column track, and this forty minute piece is entitled “Abomination”. This ‘wall’ is a taut mixture of fixed billowing ‘n’ juddering mid-range noise texturing, which is weaved with unmoving thinner grained jittering static. I think around the mid-way point we get another layer of juddering added into the ‘wall’, but this all could just be a trick of the ‘wall’ it self- anyway this is another (mostly) fixed HNW track. Once again this is another satisfying ‘wall’, and I really like the taunt intensity of the track, as it just seems to feast & slowly but surely engulf you in a most brutal yet effective manner.
So all in all this split offers up two consistent, mainly fixed, and truly brutal slices of walled noise. This release was put out back in December last year, in a edition of 25 copies- so all being well you should still be able to get hold of a copy of this. Roger Batty
