Folter - Blood Blind [Distorted Visions - 2013]“Blood Blind” offers up two slices of fairly simply tonal based, yet searing & industrialized walled noise from this Texas HNW project. The release comes in the form of a C20 cassette tape that features one ‘wall’ per side. Folter is one of the projects of Houston based Zach Guttowsky (Black Leather Jesus, Ex. Protists Of Nebula, Glasgow Smile, INFECTED(TX), Permanent Outlet). The projects been active since 2011 releasing around twenty or so releases on valorous underground noise labels. The two tracks are entitled “Blood” & “Blind”, and each ten minute track offers up a fairly similar sounding slice of drone based and pitch sustained wall-making, which apparently originates from some sort of synth based equipment. The first sides track is built around a very fixed & continual mass of simplistic droning, slightly churning, and juddering noise tones- all the tones used have a fairly similar range, and they just sort of monotonously churn on & on. The track has a certainly crude & lo-fi charm about it, but really it just felt a little bit too simplistic for it’s own good. The second sides track really utilizes the same tones & fixed churning setting as the first sides track, but slightly blurs, muffles & degrades them a little bit more.As I felt the first sides track was really over stretching a not very inspired selection of tones, this second track really enforces my feelings even more, and really by the end of the tape I’ve had more than enough of these elements for good. Though I have enjoyed some of Folter's & Mr Guttowsky work in the past, I have to say “Blood Blind” over all did little or nothing for me, and in my mind it just felt like a rather pointless, one-dimensional, & unrewarding excise in drab & bland drone based noise making Roger Batty
