Dead Body Collection & J.Adolphe - Deep Into The Halls [Geräuschmanufaktur - 2014]

This C40 tape is a collaboration between infamous Serbian  walled noise brutalists Dead Body Collection, and atmospheric German noise-maker J.Adolphe. The release is seemingly themed around  either an abounded metal asylum or hospital, and it nice shifts between creepy atmosphere lined wall battering, more subdued & eerier industrialized noise drifts, and dips into creepy field recordings

The red high-bias chrome cassette is labelled on both sides, and comes in a double layered cassette sleeve. Firstly theres a semi-transparent outer cover, which takes in a murky overlaid picture of an abandoned ward. Then there's a white paper inner sleeve  that features a few  lines of creepy text, and a old picture of moustached man with the side of his head peeled back. And the whole thing comes wrapped in transparent paper obi strip…..all told it’s a rather nicely put together & thought-out bit of packaging, and it comes in a edition of 50 copies.

Each side of tape takes in a single track, and first up on side A we have Echoing Voices Between The Walls. This track starts out with  steadily building web of reverb 'n' clattering type textures &  buzzing electro shifts. With-in a few mintues the ‘wall’ comes tumbling in the form of a galloping roast, to start with we get these eerier & muffled /reverb  spoken word elements on top of the ‘wall’. But fairly soon these disappear & we’re just left with the great darkly galloping ‘wall’, to which Adolphe adds on subtle touches of creepy electronics, eerier textual ebbs, and subtle/ chilling industrial texturing. The rest of the track moves between long drifts of dark, moody, yet brutal ‘wall-work’( which are layered with Adolphe horror filled sound craft & muffled yet seared vocalising), more strip-back & atmospheric industrialized ambient drifts, subdued ‘n’ creepy noise momovements, and snippets of field recordings( which were apparently taken from inside an abandoned metal asylum).

Flipping over to side B we have Lysol, Sickness And Death. This track opens with a nice eerier field recording that mixes together the sound of chattering birds, dripping water, and subtle rustling…this nicely brings to mind some form of abandoned building. Fairly soon a rising & chilling synth tone appears, and off this comes this eerier & broken organ like textures. Then fairly soon we move into a lengthy mix of condescend juddering ‘n’ boiling wall-matter, creepy reverb licked voices, and atmospheric yet slightly wonky  harmonic tones come into play.  This track  is a little bit more fixed in it’s wall pummelling structure, yet there are some nicely atmospheric textural shifts of vocal matter, creepy sound making, and eerier industrial texturing from Adolphe.

Both tracks here are eventful & rewarding mixes of pummelling wall-making and darkly oppressive soundscaping…so if you fancy something that nicely mixers up brutal walled noise & creepy atmospherics this is well worth your time!. I hope these two collaborate again, because this release really is quite a satisfying mix of intensity & creepy moodiness.
