Snuff- A Documentary About Killing On Ca - Snuff- A Documentary About Killing On Camera(DVD) [Wild Eye Releasing - 2015]Here’s a 2015 DVD reissue of a US 2008 documentary about Snuff. The film runs for around seventy five minutes, and features a selection of talking heads, infamous movie footage, and discussion about possible real snuff films. The documentary brings together a selection six of so talking heads- these take in fairly unknown selection of film producers & directors. Along with retired police offices & FBI profiles. The documentary opens with the talking heads discussing their thoughts on the snuff film in general, then we move onto movies that have been seen as possible Snuff films in the past. After this we get discussions & minimal footage regarding serial killers, true crime connection with snuff, snuff film rings, and war related real life killings. The whole documentary is filmed in a fairly bland manner with the talking heads set against the same darkened room setting through-out. The first two parts- i.e. the thoughts of talking heads about the idea of snuff, and movies suspected of been snuff films. Are frankly a little underwhelming, and will rather bore anyone with any prior knowledge about these films- as they cover very familiar footage & rather uninspired discussion about said films The latter part of the doc taking in the true crime/ war based killing discussion, is a bit more rewarding & interesting. And certainly if you have a interest in true crime & serial killers you will find this part worthy of your time. And at times some of this is quite harrowing On the whole how much you get out of this documentary depends on who much you know about the subject of Snuff- if you are new to the subject, then I can see you’d find this whole doc fairly interesting, though maybe a little bland & dry in it’s presentation. But if like me you have a fair amount of knowledge about the subject of Snuff, you may find the first part rather dull, with only the second part been worthy- if you have an interest in true crime. In summing I found on the whole the documentary rather disappointing, and clearly there is still a need for a more researched, in-depth, and definitive film about the subject of snuff in general Roger Batty
