Dead Body Collection - Maxima Vulva [Porn Noise Records - 2016]Here we have another example of head-drilling & totally unrelenting walled noise from this highly prolific Serbian project. The release comes in the form of a C40 cassette, featuring one side long track per side of tape, and really this is HNW at it’s most crushing ‘n’ overloaded. The plain black cassette comes in a glossy & fold-out monochrome sleeve. This features collages of pierced & stretched female genital, and diagrams of the female sexual anatomy, which of course fits the releases title/theme…. but just be careful if your a little prudish/or easily shocked, but that said I can’t imagine DBC collectors are, and really with a release title like this you know what your getting into!. The release has a fairly scene generous edition of 50 copies, so you should still be able to get your hands on a copy. Anyway moving onto the sounds with-in, and on side one we have "Internal Vulva", and on side two we have "External Vulva". Each of these tracks are fairly similar in both their tonal range & patter-nation, and I'd really goes as far to say you’d say these two tracks are really slight variation of a single ‘wall’ theme. The main elements here are a thick, extremely muffled & tautly suffocating selection of juddering, buzzing, jittering, and rattling tones- these are focused on a fairly narrow lower-to-mid range. And they create this sort of constantly tunnelling & brutally spiralling feel- I guess you’d say there is quite a thick & dense industrial feel to the whole thing. And really it brought to my mind( with of course the releases title/ theme) a female having intercourse with a huge constantly throbbing & churning machine. The variation from side to side is very subtle- the first sides track is slight more narrow in it’s range of textures/ tones, and by the second side it’s becomes a bit more varied, though it still remains fairly narrow. According to the liner notes this was recorded back at the tail end of 2013, then finished in 2015- so I suspect DBC was either waiting for the right opportunity & theme to come along before releasing. As DBC release go this is satisfying enough in it’s drilling nihilistic numb-ness, though it’s nothing special. All in all this release certainly fits it’s theme, and if your after head-fucking wall-noise intensity, that’s plain & simply in it’s intent, then hunt down this C40 tape. Just don’t expect the best this project can do, think more of a run-of-the- mill DBC release. I wanted to give this 2 & ½, but as we don’t do half’s at m[m] I’ve gone for a 3 instead. Roger Batty
